FAQ

Who can join Teen Read (formerly Teen Summer Reading Program)?

Any student who is entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2019.

How do I participate?

Complete a registration form at the Youth Services desk, pick up a Reading Log, and start reading!  Once you’ve completed your Reading Log (all 10 hours filled on one sheet), return it to the Youth Services desk.  With each completed Reading Log, you’ll be entered into a raffle for the prize of your choice.  Winners will be drawn on Monday, August 5th.

When does it begin/end?

Teen Read 2019 starts June 3rd and ends August 3rd. All Teen Reading Logs must be turned in by 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 3rd.

Can I get “extra credit”?

Bring your Reading Log to summer events; each event counts as 2 hours!  Logs will be stamped as you enter the event.

What about events that say “REGISTRATION REQUIRED”?

These are events that can only accommodate a limited number of participants.  If you’re interested in attending one of these events, be sure to register ASAP.  The registration date is listed with each event.

What should I read?

Any books, magazines, newspapers – fiction, nonfiction, or graphic novels.  You may also listen to audio books.   Required summer reading counts, too.

Can anyone attend the Teen Read summer events?

Only students who are entering grades 6-12 will be admitted.  Parents and younger siblings may wait in the library.

What are the Grand Prizes this year?

A list of prizes will be posted at the Youth Services desk.  Teens are only eligible to win one prize per person.  Chances for the prizes will be earned with every complete Reading Log that you return.  Winners will be chosen Monday, August 5th and will be notified by telephone.  All prizes must be claimed within 7 days or another name will be drawn.
